Would you believe I’ve been doing this for a month now??? Time is really flying! So this week was a week of births, deaths and birthdays. Seeing as I was once a Motiance (www.motiancedanceschool.org) girl and will always be a Motiance girl, I have to mention the passing of Cees van Dolderen. As the founder of Motiance, Cees offered hundreds of kids the opportunity to get off the street and discover the passion of dance. This passion for dance led me to my passion for music so in a way Cees, thanks for helping me reach where I am today.
I have a new Sunday night date these days. Every Sunday I’m tuning into DJ MissBehave’s radio show. It is SO refreshing to have a female DJ on the scene. I gotta give my girl props for breaking into the DJ scene which as we all know is dominated by the males. Her shows are refreshing, perfect prep for those dreaded Monday mornings. She’s really repping the ladies in her multiple talents, not only is she fantastic on the decks but she’s also a photographer. So, if you’re in the Tallahassee area get a photo shoot for only $50, that includes the service for a hundred photos and five edits. In my opinion while listening to her shows you might even forget you have that 8:30 AM group meeting or gym sessions. It has to be the best remedy for the Sunday blues or typical melancholy that hits me at the end of the week. You can check her show here at Yorkville Studios at 6 PM (Tallahassee) and midnight (NL).
Soca fans, we’re going into “Soca overload”… don’t feel like going all the way to Groningen for your weekend Soca fix? No problem, on March 26th there will be the East meets West Soca party in Amsterdam. You’ll get to show the London visitors how we rep the Caribbean in Holland. So bring your rag and your flag and let’s show them how it’s done. Yours truly, will probably be making an appearance at both so that I can give you the most objective reviews (once Ive recovered of Socafever of course). See you in Amsterdam (and/or) Groningen on March 26th.
Groningen: Club Ritmo, Gelkinge Straat 10 Groningen, 11:00 PM- 06:00 AM
Amsterdam: Bijlmer Park Theater, Anton De Komplein 240, Amsterdam Zuid-Oost from 17:00 PM-03:00 AM
I’ve had a few FMLs this week including trying to make a tshirt for Cees’s funeral. So when you those photo transfers for tshirts you have to make a mirror image. Google totally failed me in their instructions, I ended up wasting my transfers, burning a tshirt and the transfer melted onto the impromptu ironing board (aka bed). Let’s say that was definitely a one hit wonder (EPIC fail).
On a good note the surprise party for my friend did work out. Although on the way there she was insisting that she felt her brother was gonna surprise her. Little did she know that EVERYONE was in on it, it was a miracle I was able to keep a straight face. It was a success all round though, we finished off the celebrations with a night of all you can eat ribs and pool…a sweet birthday for sure.
I’ve been on the train a lot this week, what kept me company for a particularly long ride was Da Truth’s mixtape Always. The sequel to Sorry 06 it shows the sweeter side of a relationship love and life. Loved it, especially the message that it carries, if you ride out the storm there may still be a beautiful day to come. He wanted to capture the true meaning of abiding love, and Da Truth did it again. So if you’re feeling in need of mellow moments download it at www.smittysmitts.com or www.myspace.come/smittysmitts.
Another mixtape that really caught my attention this week is the new Gappy Ranks mixtape “Stinkin Rich” which was mixed by DJ Waxfiend. Another great accomplishment for Jamrock Radio this new release it is DEFINTELY worth a listen. Hosted by Suppa Kid and Maikal X it brings a smooth combination of great artists, djs and hosts all to one mixtape. That alone serves as an accomplishment because it's rare to make that successful combination, so good job guys! You can download the tracked version at www.mediafire.com/?ebjmtlt0d1x. If you prefer one long mp3 you can download that here: www.mediafire.com/?ggmayymi4ga. It’s a great team effort featuring both tracks from Gappy and remixes from Waxfiend, the best of both worlds. It is officially SexyVoice approved! Want any info on the artists, djs or hosts check out Jamrock Radio (www.jamrockradio.nl) for contacts and information of the Jamrock movement.
Anyways peeps…til next week
