Newsflash:

A picture says a lifetime of words

I decided I should branch out this blog a little bit, I’ll be adding photography to the mix as well. And it is with great pride that I would like to present to you (those who don’t know him) Fabi Fliervoet. Personally I think he’s one of the best photography talents from St. Maarten. For someone who only started taking photography seriously less than two years ago, it’s clear he has a natural talent and flair. Not only do I love his work but also what he stands for as an artist. He aims to capture “the vivid touch of life” in his work, and he does it damn well too. Fabi has been printed in international magazines including National Geographic, spreading St. Maarten’s beauty throughout the globe. Dude, I take my hat off to you and all that your work stands for. Check out his site: www.photodushi.com and on Facebook (Fabi Fliervoet) to see more of his amazing work. (These pictures were shown with permission).

Fishermans Hideout

Had to help my roommate move out this weekend, gonna miss that crazy ass. Late nights bonding over a drink, prank calling, yelling about the CIA in the street, we’ve had some laughs. Apart from the fact that she over plays the songs “Tick tock” from Kesha and “Replay” from Iyaz, it’s been a good laugh. Gotta thank her for being the artistic director of my impromptu photo shoot after 10 PM for the blog’s flyer. My roomie’s a pretty talented up and coming journalist (who happens to be addicted to the Hills & the City), check her crazy antics on Twitter (RoxanneWorld) or Facebook(Roxanne Natalja).

I went to the movies this week with a friend of mine, went to go watch Valentine’s Day. Movie wasn’t bad, had some really unexpected elements in it which made it a lot more enjoyable. Normally we smuggle our dinner into the movies with us, but seeing as we had a lot of time to kill, we went to McDonalds. And ordered a Happy Meal!! But the toys were WAY better back in the day tho. Haha. Oh and one of the dudes who works there insisted on walking past our table backwards everytime…I tell you, gotta get your entertainment somehow. Our dessert, ice cream, was successfully smuggled into the theatre in our pockets…can you say smooth? Oh and if you want people falling asleep during a thriller…definitely go to see “The Box” my movie companion was catching some Zzz’s during that one. Meanwhile I actually managed to watch, and seeing as I’m the biggest chicken when it comes to horror and/or thriller that’s not a good thing LOL.

I am SO happy to finally see and hear some Caribbean flavour back in Rihanna’s songs. The new track “Rude Boy” is pretty catchy, can’t lie she got a good beat going on there. The video’s pretty sick too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e82VE8UtW8A )the graphics give me a flashback to the 90’s, for some reason it reminds me of the old “Saved by the Bell” intro. Overall though, can’t hate, the song is good, whether we’ll still be loving her outfits in ten years who knows. But the girl got the swagga to pull it off now, so go through, besides, I’m all for living in the now.

So I was waiting for the metro (subway for those on the state side) along with some classmates listening to the new “Love” from Nonchalant (http://www.myspace.com/nonchalantthekid). Now here I am trying to explain the “His & Her” EPs Nonchalant has already produced. So my classmates ask me “You mean like his and her pajamas…n toothbrushes n stuff?” Well my boy it’s on another level, but something like that. Of course with a conversation about music, dancing comes up to. Now I’m a Caribbean gyal and love to dance just as much as any of us do. So when one of my classmates didn’t believe I was raised in the Caribbean, I showed them how we do….Speechless to a good Caribbean grind…thanks to the tunes from the Hers EP I had plenty good beats to work with. Nonchalant….gotta say I’m loving the variety, unified theme but unique beats and lyrics straight through. Wanna check out these great Hip Hop albums, they’re available for download at:

Note to self: Do not go to the gym and go at it so hard that you gotta walk down the stairs sideways cus you can't hold up your own weight.

Off to Dj Spy's Bday Bash...till next week peeps.
